Our Mission:
Our Mission at Sunny View Elementary is to build a learning community that works together to inform, inspire and empower our students to become confident lifelong learners.

Our Beliefs:

  • The education of our children is the responsibility of all stakeholders.

  • All children should be presented with high expectations and have equal learning opportunities.

  • Our school has the responsibility to address the academic, creative, emotional, physical, and social needs of all students.

  • All children learn more effectively in a nurturing environment that is clean, safe, and disciplined.

  • Every individual in our  school is valuable and deserves dignity, fairness, and respect.

  • All students should be instructed and encouraged to set goals, complete tasks, and become knowledgeable, responsible community members.

  • Children should be taught honesty, cooperation, citizenship, and should develop personal responsibility for accepting the consequences of their behavior.

There has been much interest and concern generated around the proposed Policies Governing Services for Children with Disabilities, specifically, the changes in the evaluation and identification of Autism Spectrum Disorder.  To provide parents the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the proposed policy changes, the Exceptional Children Division (ECD) invites parents to participate in a public forum in order to receive clarification. A forum will be offered in each region to accommodate parent participation. Please look at the attached information.

The new year found several Sunny View School 5th graders enjoying their "just desserts"! In order to keep her students reading during the busy fall/winter holiday seasons, Mrs. Gina Kelly-Price challenged her students to read 40 books of specific, varied genres. They read poetry, science fiction, mysteries, historical fiction, folktales, fantasy, informational books, and others. Eight students completed the challenge, and on January 7, were treated to a special field trip to McDonald's for a sweet treat, along with outside playtime.

We are pleased to announce that we met our goal for the Coin War Challenge. We raised $785 for Jase, a special student at Tryon, to get his very own service dog. Congratulations to Ms. Kelly's fifth-grade class for winning the challenge by collecting the most money.

Beulah Baptist Church visited Sunny View Elementary and brought a van loaded with blankets for all students and staff. The church members went from class to class passing out soft, cozy blankets just in time for the cold weather. Students were excited to receive their gifts and were shown a great example of generosity and giving this season. Click here to access the Tryon Daily Bulletin article.

Thank you to all that came out and supported our Character Day! Everyone looked great with their costumes and books! Image result for jackolantern
