Elementary Grades (K-5)

Regular attendance by every student is mandatory.  When a student must miss school, please call the school (625-4530) by 9:00 a.m. to let us know the reason for absence.  Also, a written excuse signed by a parent or guardian must be presented to the teacher on the day returning after an absence.  An absence may be excused for the following reasons:

          a.  Personal illness or injury which makes the student physically unable to attend school.

          b.  Isolation ordered by the State Board of Health.

          c.  Death in the immediate family.

          d.  Emergency medical or dental appointment or such an appointment which has been approved  by the principal.

          e.  Participation as a party under subpoena as a witness in a court proceeding.

          f.  Observance of an event required or suggested by the religion of the student or the student's parent (s) with prior approval by the principal.

          g.  Participation in a valid educational opportunity such as travel with prior approval by the  principal.

In the case of absence, the student will be permitted to make up his/her work.  Teachers will determine when work is to be made up; however, it is the responsibility of the students to find out what he/she is to do.

Attendance Policy

Please call the school each day your child is absent unless absence is an extended illness.  All students are expected to attend school each day.  The students will be considered tardy after 8:00. Remember a parent/guardian needs to come to the office to sign the student in when late. Students who are tardy or absent are not always able to meet the standards of which they are capable.

Excused ( lawful ) Absences

Reasons for excused ( lawful ) absences are personal illness or injury, illness or injury in the immediate family, death in the immediate family, by religious denomination observance, medical or dental appointment (should be made after school when possible), and any other emergency or extenuating circumstances as approved by the school administrator.

Unexcused ( unlawful ) Absences

An unexcused (unlawful) absence is an absence from school without the knowledge of the parent or an absence from school with the knowledge of the parent, which is not identified as an excused absence. Such unexcused ( unlawful ) reasons will include haircuts, shopping trips, etc.

Written Excuses

If a student is absent, tardy, or dismissed early, a note from the parent or guardian stating the reason for absence, tardiness, or early dismissal is required on the first day back or before the early dismissal. Without a written note, the absence is counted as unexcused.

Make-up Work for Absences

Students are required to do make-up work for each day's absence.

Additional Regulations

A student must be in attendance for at least 3 1/2 hours to be counted present for the day.
